Tasked with creating a new product that synthesized the use cases and capabilities from our legacy monitoring solution and the newly acquired Data Rank technology.
Our 4 year old legacy product was a success due to it's simplicity and share ability, unfortunately it was overly heavy and very static.
The Data Rank product was deeply powerful but very much a bootstrapped application. It was un-opinionated and difficult to navigate. Too often it would get into the weeds and overload the user with stats too early.
I approached the new designs focused on simplifying navigation and giving users reasons to click into the different sections of the dashboard.
All the sections were represented as tabs that held a preview "hero metric" and it's period-over-period change.
This approach was used to create a curiousity in the user so that they were motivated to view all sections of the dashboard. Additionally these were live elements that reacted to our deep filter set, allowing for live cross referencing of metrics between sections.
Every section had a table below that sliced and grouped all the loaded data by key segments (e.g. People, Locations, Posts). Users could instantly get to the atomic values of our data within seconds of seeing aggregate data above. Helpful for identifying key Posts and Influencers, among others.
